Curb Appeal

Love at first sight does exist! Whether you are selling a home, looking to buy, or simply ready to spruce up, it’s time to think about curb appeal. And no, we aren’t talking about HGTV’s hit TV show. We are talking about quick, easy, and effective tools to instantly amp up your home’s first impression.

For a low-budget and quick fix, start with these three easy DIY steps: flowers, paint, and hardware.

Flowers: Adding symmetrical planters flanking your front door gives your entrance a presence on the block. Or, think about adding a small perennial garden to the front of your house. Tip: Perennials are flowers that come back and bloom each year, and require minimal maintenance. Autumn is a great time of year to plant, and many perennials will be on sale.

Paint: Chipped, dull, or dingy paint can really age your house, and kill the curb appeal to any potential buyer (or admirer). Most painting companies recommend repainting your home every 5-10 years, depending on the weather, environment, and quality of your paint selection.

Hardware: You can instantly change the esthetic of your entryway with a simply trip to Home Depot. Give your entrance an facelift by adding a sconce (or two) and modernizing the door handle and mailbox.

If you have a more flexible budget and are looking to add significant value to your home, consider investing in a entryway remodel. Molding, columns, decking, railings, and details all bring a dramatic feel your home’s entrance. Below are three recent entryway remodels from BLB Custom Building. Call Ben Becker at 978-360-0411 for an estimate.

High Road Entryway

This historical Newbury home (still under construction by BLB Custom Building), added a beautiful side entrance alongside their driveway with a portico, as well as bluestone and landscaping accents.

Columbus Avenue Entryway

An update to the decking, railing and columns, gave this beautiful Newburyport home a welcoming front entrance. We also love the window detail the homeowners chose for around the door.

This Amesbury home got a front door makeover, with new decking, railings, and walkway in pavers. The homeowner's cat definitely approves!
